What is CGTI?

The Cebrin Goodman Teen Institute (CGTI) is a youth leadership and prevention program for middle school and high school students, held at two conferences throughout the year; our week-long camp in July and our weekend-long Mid-Year camp in January. CGTI is one of the largest and most acclaimed leadership conferences in the nation and has been operating since 1974!

Our Mission:

CGTI empowers youth with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to lead an alcohol, tobacco, and other drug-free life. We make this a reality by:

  • helping teens develop and strengthen leadership skills.

  • educating them to lead peers to reduce the frequency of substance use and other addictive behaviors.

  • teaching them to advocate for positive change within their schools, communities, and local government.

  • encouraging healthy decision making skills.

History of CGTI

With over 50 years of conferences in the books, CGTI has remained at its core a substance use prevention and leadership program designed to support students in taking steps to create tangible, long-lasting change. Since the first CGTI conference in 1974, events have been led by trained volunteer staff, many of whom are program alum, and held at a centralized college campus, ensuring that it could be accessible to interested youth from all areas of the state. CGTI continues to operate on the foundation that students have the power to make an impact

All CGTI participants leave events with an Action Plan based on SAMHSA’s Strategic Prevention Framework. These plans make it possible for students to identify local issues and address them over the school year, creating a long-lasting, tangible impact. CGTI champions student-led, adult-supported advocacy!
